NO AUDITION IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE!
From auditions to curtain, young performers will experience the entire process of putting on a fully staged show. Hone your singing, dancing, and acting skills, learn about staging, sound, lights, set and costumes, and put it all together in a full-scale production of Seussical KIDS and Seussical JUNIOR!
About The Show
Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime).
Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

PRODUCTION CAMP CASTING POLICIES
The goal of this camp is to provide young actors a positive, first experience into full theatrical productions. For that reason, you do not have to audition to be in the production. However, we do audition for specific roles. As students learn about a full theatrical performance, they will learn that there are various types of roles in a production. Some roles require lots of lines and solos, some roles may not have lines and solos but are an integral part of the storytelling through song and dance.
It is important that campers learn that every role is important from The Cat in the Hat to the Who’s, as our goal as actors is to tell the best story possible. In this production camp, GCPA values involving every student heavily in the production and assigns lines and solos to as many as possible within the confines of the script. While not every actor will have lines or solos, every actor will be in many scenes and songs, learning the ins and outs of theatre. In any casting process, there will be actors who are disappointed with their role. We understand that and are prepared to help our cast process casting decisions and find the excitement in their given role. This disappointment is usually short lived, as they find they will be doing lots of fun things in the production, regardless of their role. We ask that parents help us as we teach every actor that they are important to the story and needed in the production.
