Teaching Artists

GCPA is always accepting applications for Teaching Artists!

At this time, we are specifically seeking the following:

  • Summer camp and class instructors for daytime summer camps and evening classes running Monday - Friday, 8:45am - 4:15pm, June 2nd - August 8th. See more details below.

  • Teachers with comfortability with students of all ages and levels, but especially elementary and middle school aged students.

  • Private Voice Instructors with exclusively weekend availability to teach in our Webster studios. Some weekday availability may be available, but the majority of our studios and student interest currently fall on weekends. Immediate placements available for students of all levels ages 8-Adult.

Additional opportunities for further teaching may develop with working relationship.

Voice, Acting, and Dance Instructors must be proficient and trained in their specific discipline. It is preferred that all applicants have a working knowledge of all Musical Theatre skills. Musical Theatre instructors must be proficient and trained in at least one discipline of musical theatre and capable of teaching two to three disciplines (singing, dancing, and acting) to young children. Summer brings higher levels of enthusiasm and a deeper desire for connection and community from our students. Summary: 

Gateway Center for Performing Arts employs Teaching Artists for fall, winter, spring, and summer programming, including classes, workshops, and educational community programs. Teaching Artists represent GCPA and its mission to clients and the community and are an integral part of promoting the company and its services. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Teaching assigned classes and projects in alignment with GCPA's core curriculum and standards

  • Creating all course materials, including syllabus, sheet music, lyric sheets, and scripts

  • Creating secondary course materials including craft projects, costuming, and props

  • Collaborating with the Director of Education to provide superior communication and goal tracking with students and families

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: A Bachelors Degree in Performing Arts, Performing Arts Education or a related discipline

  • Preferred: 3-5 years teaching experience in a performance arts related field

  • A working knowledge of repertoire from all genres and eras related to individual disciplines

Desired Skills:

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Independent and confident leadership

  • Clear and professional communication, both written and oral

  • A strong work ethic and a high value on customer service

  • Superior classroom management skills and comfort with a diversity of student ages, personalities, and abilities

  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in high-intensity situations

Summer Teaching Artist Commitment

  • Prep and lesson planning, including collaboration with co-teachers and teaching assistants, as needed.

  • Orientation Meeting: Sunday May 11th, 3pm-5pm OR Friday May 16, 6pm - 8pm

  • Weekly camps running Monday - Friday, 8:45am - 4:15pm, including breaks and a 30 minute lunch. Camps run weekly June 2nd - August 8th. No camp June 30th - July 4th. CLICK HERE for specific camps by week.

  • Camp instructors must be available the entire week. Half day commitments (morning camp or afternoon camp) will be considered, but full day availability will be prioritized.

  • All camps culminate in a final demonstration for parents on the last day.

  • Classes run in the evenings and are structured like mini-camps, running one week at a time, Tuesday - Thursday, 5:30 - 8:30pm. Each class block includes several classes of varying ages and themes. Class dates are June 17th - 19th, June 24th - 26th, July 8th - 10th and July 15th - 17th.

Private Vocal Instructor Commitment

  • Orientation meeting(s) TBD

  • Personally schedule based on studio availability.

  • Adherence to GCPA private lesson rates and studio fees.

  • Weekend availability for private lessons. Currently our studios are mostly booked during the week. We are in high demand for private voice instructors to students of all levels ages 8 through Adult.

Teaching Artist Compensation: Hourly rate based on education and experience.

Private Voice Instructor Compensation: Per 30, 45 or 60 minute lesson based on education and experience.
