Check out our Pop-Up Classes - short mini sessions with fun themes perfect for the busy theatre lover! Pop Ups are 4 weeks long and focus in on one goal or one finished piece to perform at the end. Some Pop Ups are available for registration now, and be on the look out for more to “pop up” throughout the session!

SPRING POP-UP ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN!

Pop Up Classes are the perfect way to get your performing arts class fix without imploding your schedule. Pick up a new skill, enjoy themes you can’t find any other time in the GCPA calendar, and come back session to session as your schedule allows for something new - but always just as fun!

Four-week PopUps cost $80 for the entire session. Pop Ups are subject to the registration fee for new students.

SPRING SESSION 1: FEBRUARY 7 – MARCH 9

 

Zoo Crew
Sing and dance your way through the world of Zootopia! Students will rock out to the Shakira hits "Try Everything" from Zootopia and "Zoo" from Zootopia 2. Learn fun dance moves, sing along like a pro, try out big animal characters and let your wild side show in a mini-performance for your parents on the last day!

Minis: Ages 5-8

Top Taps
Practice some of the fundamentals of tap while building fun combos inspired by the high-energy style of Newsies, the jazzy party vibe of Gatsby, and the bold Broadway flair of Boop. The best of contemporary Broadway for tap lovers! Some tap experience is preferred.

Tweens & Seniors: Ages 10-18 Beginner / Advanced Beginner

Dance to a soundtrack featuring some of the best pop songs of all time, against the backdrop of one of the most iconic love stories of all time! Students will learn choreography inspired by the hit jukebox musical & Juliet. Build musicality, technique, and storytelling through movement as you bring emotion, attitude, and character to each combo, featuring a mix of modern and lyrical set to the show’s biggest pop anthems. 

Seniors: Ages 12+

Newsies
Leap, turn, and land strong in this dance pop-up inspired by the dynamic choreography of the classic musical Newsies! Students will learn combos to the Newsies favorites Seize the Day, King of New York, and Carrying the Banner, with a focus on energy, clarity, and storytelling through movement. Students will also get a chance to create their own choreographed phrases and share what they create together in the final class.

Juniors & Tweens: Ages 8-13 Thursdays, 8-9 pm

Outsiders
Learn choreography inspired by some of your favorite moments from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, The Outsiders! Students will learn fundamental musical theatre dance technique and the concept of being an expressive mover in some of the very ground-breaking ways The Outsiders uses dance in non-traditional ways through scene work and storytelling, including a close look at the infamous Rumble. Perform it for an audience of family and friends during the last class!

This class requires the completion of two semesters of a foundations-level Jazz, Modern or Musical Theatre Dance class, and students must be actively in dance training. Email ablevins@gcpastl.org for questions about eligibility.

Disney Besties
It's time the loyal sidekicks get the spotlight! Sing and dance to the favorites of some of Disney's most iconic besties, including Hakuna Matata with Timon and Pumbaa, Be Our Guest with Lumiere and Cogsworth, and Friend Like Me with Genie. You'll have a blast learning to move and groove, and hopefully making some new besties of your own!

Princess Party
Step into your princess power in this song and dance class for the brave, the fierce, and the beautiful. Learn choreography and sing your heart out to favorite princesses and their fearless adventures, including How Far I'll Go from Moana and Into the Unknown from Frozen 2. Practice powerful stage presence, expressive storytelling, and confidence on stage and off, just like your favorite princesses!

Stranger Stories
Turn the Upside Down - upside down! Stranger Things fans are divided about the recent series finale - so now is your chance to create and play out the ending you wish you had seen! Using improv, character and story building technique, and writer’s room style collaboration, students will create an original final episode and bring it to life together, ending with a performance of their new (and improved???) upside-down tale.

Stage Fright
Step into the shadows and embrace the dark side of Broadway! Learn thrilling selections from hauntingly fun musicals like Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd, The Addams Family, and more. With a focus on vocal storytelling, dramatic movement, and character development, students will explore what makes these spooky shows both chilling and exciting.

Bikini Bottom Beats
The viral craze Big Guy from the new SpongeBob movie sets the backdrop for this fun introductory hip hop dance class! Learn some hip hop basics and work toward building in your own freestyle. Dancers will also learn combos to The SpongeBob F.U.N. Song Trap Remix. When the beat drops, this is where you want to be
