SUMMER 2026 INTERNS 

GCPA is in search of student interns for our 2026 Summer Camps and Productions. Our Summer Camps run weekly June 1 - August 14. Production Internships are available for four productions of Frozen Kids and one production of Frozen Junior with varying schedules throughout the summer.

SUMMER INTERN JOB DESCRIPTION 

Summary:  

Summer Camp Interns represent Gateway Center for Performing Arts and its mission to patrons and the community and are an integral part of the daily function of the organization.  Interns are assistants to Teaching Artists and Teaching Assistants. They must be comfortable and professional with students, making sure students stay on task so that the Teaching Artist can focus on instruction. Interns must be available to support students that are having trouble with specific skills (crafts, music, dance, etc.) Interns must be willing to manage students and participate in upkeep of facilities (taking out trash, sweeping, vacuuming, etc). 

Reports to:  Education Manager and Summer Camp Manager 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ages 12+

  • At least one year of performing arts training

  • Reliable transportation

  • A strong work ethic and a high value on customer service

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with children in an educational or caregiving setting

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Clear and professional communication, both written and oral

  • Confident leadership and easy rapport with students of all ages

  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in high-intensity situations

  • A more extensive background in at least one performing arts discipline

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Available for instructor support, including assisting during classes and running errands

  • Supporting with classroom management, keeping students engaged and focused

  • Help create and organize materials for classes including music, scripts, staging, art and crafts, and some costuming and props

  • Assisting with games, content review, and some portions of the camp day

  • Monitor front desk and all doors during camp hours

  • Basic administrative duties may including answering the phone, copying, filing, managing paperwork, and keeping facilities clean and organized

  • Assist with transitions between camps including arrival, dismissal, and breaks

  • Manage students during student lunch period

  • Help organize space for camps including setting up props, chairs, tables etc. and cleanup / reset at the end of the day

  • All internships include the same responsibilities during the day. Interns demonstrating specific skill sets / interests such as choreography, stage management, direction, etc. may discuss added responsibilities with their assigned Teaching Artists, but all interns are expected to complete essential intern duties and initial offers are made based on these criteria.

Commitment

  • Intern assignments will vary based on availability but it is preferred applicants be available for at least 2 - 4 weeks of camp.

    • Teaching Assistant hours are M-F, 8:30am - 4:15pm. Camper hours are 9am-12:15pm morning camp, 12:15-12:45pm lunch, and 12:45-4pm afternoon camp.

    • Commitment to a full day of camps (morning and afternoon) is preferred. Some consideration may be given for half days only to qualified candidates when necessary.

  • Frozen Kids run two weeks per production. Interns must be available for the entire experience. CLICK HERE for details.

    • June 15-26, June 22-July 3, June 29-July 10, July 6-July 17.

    • Intern hours are M-F, 8:30am-3:15pm. Camper hours are 9am-3pm.

    • On the final Friday of each experience, Interns must stay through the final performance and strike, ending at approximately 7:30 / 8pm.

  • Frozen Junior run three weeks June 1-21. Interns must be available for the entire experience. CLICK HERE for details.

    • Intern hours are M-F, 8:30am-4:15pm. Camper hours are 9am-4pm.

    • Interns must be available for all performances and strike: Friday, June 19 until 8:30pm, Saturday, June 20, 12pm-8:30pm, and Sunday, June 21, 12pm-5pm. Breaks and some meals provided over performance weekend.

  • Production Intern schedule may vary and will be discussed in detail during interviews and upon offer.

Compensation:

  • This is an unpaid internship

  • Letters or recommendation and proof of hours volunteered provided on request
