Greenwood is an original musical comedy about recapturing the vitality of lost youth. It tells the story of its characters by following their journey in two time frames: during their young teens, and a quarter-century later, in the present day. The title comes from the name of the summer camp where the protagonists first met—a very special place whose magic is not of the supernatural variety, but, rather, comes from the power of acceptance, creative freedom, and love. The extraordinary experiences they shared at that camp left an indelible impression: it showed them who they really were. The paths of their lives since that time led them not only far from each other, but also far from those true selves discovered at Greenwood. Now, the modern social networking phenomenon and the milestone anniversary of a special summer combine to bring them back together so that they may reclaim their pasts and become the people they were meant to be.

The score of Greenwood draws on pop, rock, and R&B styles inflected by jazz and contemporary Broadway influences to create a fun, high-energy, upbeat soundscape that allows the full emotional range of the characters' human experiences to be expressed—from youthful passions to the complex yearnings of adulthood. Most recently, Greenwood enjoyed an 8 performance run at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2011.  Now, the creative team is ecstatic to work with the young actors at GCPA to move Greenwood into its next phase!

Actors cast in Greenwood will work directly with Tor Hyams, Adam LeBow and other Greenwood team members to develop the story towards a staged reading to be held at in the Emerson Theatre at Harris Stowe State University on Sunday, September 25th, 2016.*

GCPA will also hold master classes with the Greenwood Team that will be open for enrollment to young artists that are not participating in the Greenwood workshop. CLICK HERE for details. Registration for these classes are now closed.
