Princeton, a recent college grad with a BA in English, struggles to find his purpose in this coming of age story. Told with both live actors and puppets, the style is a throwback to programs from childhood but addresses topics more relevant to young adults struggling to find jobs, find love, and find themselves. Adapted for teenagers, this hilarious, PG-13 musical shines a satirical and heartfelt light on what it means to enter adulthood.

AVENUE Q School Edition Guest Artist:
Original Broadway Cast Member Jennifer Barnhart

GCPA is excited to announce guest artist Jennifer Barnhart for the GCPA Youth Theatre Company production of AVENUE Q School Edition this summer!  Jennifer will be the puppeteer instructor for this production, guiding the actors to create authentic performances through the puppets. All actors cast, even those that will not use puppets in the show, will work hands on with puppets. Additionally, Jennifer will be speaking with the cast about her experiences in AVENUE Q on Broadway and being a professional actor.

About the Guest Artist
Jennifer Barnhart was a proud member of the award-winning (Outer Critics Circle) Original Broadway Cast of the multi-Tony Award-winning AVENUE Q, remaining with the show during its entire six-year run on Broadway. She has puppet coached and consulted on several productions of AVENUE Q around the country, and she directed a production of it for Adirondack Theatre Festival. Jennifer's puppetry work also extends to children's television, where she has performed on Sesame Street, Between the Lions, and Bear in the Big Blue House, to name a few. Jennifer has also worked as a 'human', on Law & Order: SVU and in regional theatres such as Goodspeed Opera House, the Arden Theatre, and Alabama Shakespeare Festival, for which she recently played Lady Macbeth and Veronica in GOD OF CARNAGE.

About the Gateway Season

The Gateway Season shows are a hybrid of the Youth Theatre Company and GCPA educational  experience.  They bring actors with strong training, skills, and interest together for a more intensive and intimate process.  With less of a focus on flashy technical aspects, actors are challenged to create authentic performances that both entertain and inspire their audience.  These shows have limited cast members and are chosen to be thought provoking, challenging, and to push the "norm" of St. Louis youth theatre. During the summer, rehearsals are Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm for 3 consecutive weeks. Rehearsals include class time focused on vocal, dance, and acting technique to further expand the actors skill set.
